MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL — A big rig hauling Coca-Cola products overturned Thursday morning as its driver tried to avoid a crash scene on Interstate 95 in Miami, according to CBS News Miami.
The rollover accident impacted the southbound lanes of I-95 between Ives Dairy Road and Miami Gardens Drive, bringing traffic to a complete stop.
A preliminary investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol indicates the driver swerved to avoid a crash ahead. The quick maneuver caused the tractor-trailer to lose control and strike a guardrail, which sent the truck on its side, leaving soda cans and water bottles scattered across the roadway.
First responders rushed the semi driver, who suffered serious injuries, to Ryder Trauma Center. No updates on the patient’s condition have been released.
A passenger car was said to have been involved in the wreck, leaving one regular lane and one express lane blocked, but no other major injuries have been reported.
Authorities had a section of the southbound interstate shut down in the immediate aftermath, causing traffic to be backed up to Hollywood Boulevard.
While multiple lanes reopened by 11:30 a.m., two right lanes stayed blocked as crews continued the cleanup.
