COLLETON COUNTY, SC — Authorities are searching for a number of loose cattle following a tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 95 near Walterboro, reports Live 5 WCSC.
The accident happened on the southbound lanes of I-95 at mile marker 55, north of Beach Road. It was first reported at around 1:00 a.m.
According to the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office, a a tractor-trailer was transporting an unspecified number of cattle southbound when the truck was involved in a crash.
While part of the interstate was shut down for nearly nine hours during the emergency response, crews were not able to collect all of the animals that got loose as a result of the crash.
The interstate was announced cleared by the South Carolina Highway Patrol at about 10:30 a.m., but the public was asked to be alert for loose cattle near Beach Road, Ulmer Lake Road, Cypress Pond Road, and other neighboring areas.
Anyone who encounters or sees one of the loose animals is urged to call the Colleton County non-emergency line at 843-549-2211. The public is asked not to approach the animals, as they could be frightened or suffering from injuries.
