Pedestrian dies following tow truck crash on I-526 in North Charleston

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC — A tow truck was involved in a collision early Sunday evening in North Charleston that claimed the life of a pedestrian, according to WCBD-TV Charleston.

The fatal incident was reported on the westbound lanes of Interstate 526 at Leeds Avenue, prompting a response from North Charleston Police Department officers at about 5:30 p.m.

Very few details regarding the circumstances of the event have been shared, but officials indicated that the pedestrian, whose identity remains undisclosed, succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

A section of the westbound interstate was shut down during the emergency response and initial investigation, forcing traffic to divert onto Leeds Avenue.

At 7:34 p.m., WCBD-TV reported that all lanes had reopened to traffic.
