TALLADEGA COUNTY, AL — Two people lost their lives Tuesday evening after a pair of crashes on U.S. Highway 280 West in Childersburg, reports ABC3340 News.
The events unfolded on U.S. Highway 280, at the intersections with Flag Pole Mountain Road and Wood Road.
Authorities said that at about 6:00 p.m., two vehicles were involved in one crash that resulted in two people being transported to UAB Hospital by medical helicopter. A third patient was taken by ambulance to Coosa Valley Medical Center, and a fourth victim succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
Nearly an hour later, an SUV rear-ended a log truck. First responders pronounced one person from the SUV deceased at the scene.
The incidents forced part of the highway to remain closed for over two hours, but at 8:40 p.m., the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency announced the reopening of all travel lanes.
