AIKEN COUNTY, SC — A crash involving a bucket truck Thursday afternoon in Batesburg-Leesville has claimed the life of a 39-year-old driver, according to Aiken Standard.
The fatal collision unfolded at the intersection of South Carolina State Highway 39 and New Holland Road, in an area about 7 miles northeast of Wagener. It was first reported at around 2:00 p.m.
South Carolina Highway Patrol officials say a 2008 International bucket truck was traveling south on the highway when it collided with a 2023 Honda Accord heading westbound on New Holland Road.
Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables pronounced the driver of the Honda deceased at the scene, confirmed officials. The victim has since been identified as Christopher Chandler, of Spartanburg County.
The driver of the utility truck was transported to a local hospital for unspecified injuries.
