LEE COUNTY, FL — One person was injured last Friday afternoon due to a major semi-truck crash on Interstate 75 in Fort Myers, reports NBC-2.
The collision unfolded near mile marker 124, in an area just west of Florida Gulf Coast University.
A preliminary investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol indicates the driver of the truck may have suffered a medical emergency, but officials did not confirm whether the episode occurred prior to the wreck or after. The truck appeared to have run off the roadway and struck multiple trees along the wood line.
First responders had the driver transported to an area hospital for minor injuries.
Crews were dispatched to the scene to clear the roadway of 40,000 pounds of raw chicken which had spilled from the semi.
No further details have been shared at this time.
