Car vs parked big rig crash claims 1 life on GA-316 in Lawrenceville

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — One person died early Tuesday after their vehicle rear-ended a parked tractor-trailer on State Highway 316 in Lawrenceville, reports Atlanta News First.

The Georgia Department of Transportation said the fatal collision occurred on the eastbound lanes at Cedars Road, shortly before 3:00 a.m.

A preliminary investigation by Gwinnett County Police indicates a passenger car hit the back of a tractor-trailer that was parked along the highway shoulder.

First responders pronounced the driver of the car deceased at the scene. The victim’s identity has not been made public at this time.

No other major injuries have been confirmed.

Authorities had a span of GA-316 shut down during the response and investigation. At the time of Atlanta News First’s update at 7:29 a.m., all lanes had been reopened to traffic, but crews remained in the area to conduct an investigation.
