SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC — A 75-year-old Union resident died last month after their car collided with a big rig on U.S. Route 176 near Spartanburg, reports WYFF4.
South Carolina Highway Patrol officials said the fatal crash occurred about three miles west of Spartanburg, in an area near University of South Carolina Upstate, on December 18, shortly before 3:00 p.m.
An early investigation indicates the victim was driving a passenger car westbound behind a tractor-trailer. At one point, the car struck the back of the big rig, critically injuring the first driver.
First responders rushed the driver of the car to Spartanburg Regional, where the patient was later pronounced deceased, confirmed officials. The victim has since been identified as Patsy Mims Coker.
No injuries to the driver of the semi were reported, and no further information has been made available.
