Woman dies after semi rear-ends SUV on US-27 in Sebring

HIGHLANDS COUNTY, FL — A crash involving a semi-truck early Wednesday in south Sebring claimed the life of a 62-year-old Lake Placid woman, reports FOX 13 Tampa Bay.

The accident took place at the intersection of U.S. Highway 27 and 98, shortly before 2:00 a.m.

An early investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol found that the woman was driving an SUV and was stopped at a red light at the intersection. At one point, for reasons still unclear, a semi-truck with a trailer slammed into the rear of her vehicle.

First responders pronounced the Lake Placid woman deceased at the scene.

The driver of the semi, a 41-year-old Miami man, was not reported injured.

Troopers did not immediately share any details regarding pending charges.
