1 dead, 1 left seriously hurt after tractor-trailer wreck off FL-20 in Calhoun County

CALHOUN COUNTY, FL — One person died Saturday afternoon following a single-vehicle big rig crash off State Road 20 near Clarksville, reports WJHG.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the accident happened off the westbound highway, less than half a mile east of State Road 287. Troopers responded to the scene some time after 4:19 p.m.

While the cause of the wreck remains under investigation, the truck was transporting two Chiefland residents when it appeared to have ran off the roadway, entered a ditch, and crashed into the tree line. The vehicle continued moving through brush until it came to a stop deep in the wooded area.

The driver, who was found to have not been wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck, was ejected from the vehicle. First responders pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

It was unclear whether the passenger was wearing a seat belt at the time, but the patient was rushed to an area hospital with significant injuries.

An investigation remains ongoing.
