Driver of tractor-trailer dies after crash with car on I-95 in Fort Lauderdale

BROWARD COUNTY, FL — One person died Friday morning following a rollover tractor-trailer wreck on Interstate 95 in Fort Lauderdale, reports Local 10.

The fatal accident happened on the northbound lanes of I-95 near I-595 and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. It was first reported by Local 10 at 9;44 a.m.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the victim was operating a 2008 Volvo tractor with a 2014 Stoughton trailer in the outer center lane when a black 2021 Nissan Altima in the inside center lane hit its back. The contact caused the trailer to strike the concrete median wall, as well as a parked 1991 Trim trailer, before flipping onto its roof and becoming engulfed in fire.

Fort Lauderdale and Broward fire rescue crews rushed to the scene, where the driver of the tractor was pronounced deceased. The victim’s identity has not been disclosed at this time.

It was unclear whether the driver of the Nissan, a 39-year-old woman, was injured and/or taken to a hospital.

FHP troopers and Florida Department of Transportation officials urged motorists to find alternate routes.

An investigation into the cause of the wreck remains open and ongoing. No charges have been reported as of this writing.
