JOPLIN, MO – A 41-year-old man was hurt Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision involving an semi-truck in Newton County, Missouri.
According to KOAM News, the accident occurred shortly before 1:45 p.m. in the area of East 32nd Street and Jaguar Road in Joplin.
Police say that for unknown reasons, a westbound car entered the eastbound side of 32nd Street and crashed head-on into an eastbound 18-wheeler. The car then left the roadway and ignited, sparking a grass fire.
Medics transported the driver of the passenger vehicle, since identified as Eddie Cook of Greenwood, to an area hospital with serious injuries.
A dog in Cook’s vehicle died at the scene.
The truck driver sustained minor injuries.
Officials closed East 32nd Street in the area of the crash for just over two hours while crews worked at the scene.
A full investigation is underway.
