JEFFERSON CO., AL – Police are investigating a double-fatality crash involving a semi that happened Sunday in central Jefferson County, Alabama.
According to CBS 42, the accident occurred in the morning near mile marker 91 on I-22, just north of Forestdale and approximately 8 miles northwest of Birmingham.
Authorities say that for unknown reasons, a pickup truck carrying two people crashed head-on into an 18-wheeler on the interstate.
Both occupants of the pickup truck sustained fatal injuries. Authorities identified the victims as 45-year-old Tramaine Q. Pruitt and 29-year-old Jarad J. Pruitt.
Medics transported the truck driver to an area hospital with unspecified injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
