Marion man killed in 3-vehicle semi collision along Blues Hwy

MARION, AR – A 43-year-old man sustained fatal injuries last Thursday in a multi-vehicle collision involving two semi-trucks in Crittenden County, Arkansas.

According to KAIT 8, the accident occurred shortly before 8 a.m. near mile marker 9 on I-55, or the Blues Highway, in Marion.

Authorities say that roads were icy when a northbound 2019 Freightliner semi rear-ended a northbound 2019 Freightliner semi as the driver of the latter truck entered the highway from a rest area.

Following this initial crash, the rear semi veered onto the southbound side of the highway and crashed head-on into a southbound Honda Accord.

The driver of the Honda, identified as Matthew Coles of Marion, died at the scene.

Medics transported the two truck drivers and a minor passenger from the Honda to an area hospital with unspecified injuries.

A full investigation is underway.
