Woman killed in car vs. semi crash at NC-118, Cannon Price Rd

GRIFTON, NC – A Greenville woman sustained fatal injuries Friday in a two-vehicle collision involving an 18-wheeler in southwest Pitt County.

According to WCTI News 12, the accident happened shortly after 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of NC-118 and Cannon Price Road in Grifton. This is about 20 miles south of Greenville.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a westbound log truck collided with an eastbound Toyota Camry when the driver of the latter vehicle failed to heed right of way and turned into the path of the semi.

The impact of the crash caused the semi-truck to leave the highway and overturn in a ditch.

The driver of the Toyota, identified as 23-year-old Cara Gardner, died at the scene.

It’s unclear if the truck driver sustained injuries in the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
