Semi-Truck Driver Sentenced to 45 Years for Fatal Crash

CAMDEN COUNTY, GA – A semi-truck driver was convicted of eight counts of homicide by vehicle, eight counts of injury by vehicle, and one count of open container after a fatal accident on I-95 in July 2022, Action News Jax reports.

The accident occurred near Exit 1 of I-95. Nicholas DeWayne Burist was driving a tractor-trailer under the influence of alcohol when he veered out of his lane, causing a multi-vehicle crash that claimed the lives of four and left four others seriously injured. A jury found Burist guilty on August 7.

Burist was sentenced to 75 years, with 45 years served in prison and 30 years on probation.
