{"id":9170,"date":"2025-08-19T03:56:16","date_gmt":"2025-08-19T08:56:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/truckaccidentlawyers.com\/news\/?p=9170"},"modified":"2025-08-19T03:56:16","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T08:56:16","slug":"semi-truck-driver-charged-following-crash-with-train-in-waverly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/truckaccidentlawyers.com\/news\/virginia-truck-accidents\/semi-truck-driver-charged-following-crash-with-train-in-waverly\/","title":{"rendered":"Semi-truck driver charged following crash with train in Waverly\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">WAVERLY, VA \u2013 A semi-truck driver was charged following a crash with a Norfolk Southern train that happened on the outskirts of Waverly on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Virginia State Police told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.13newsnow.com\/article\/news\/local\/virginia\/virginia-sussex-county-train-tractor-trailer-crash\/291-7fca1d69-4d40-45ec-a17c-9de643f3fdd0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">13NewsNow<\/a> that the events unfolded when a 33-year-old man, operating a 2016 Volvo semi-truck, tried to cross the railroad tracks at the intersection of General Mahone Highway and Walnut Hill Road and became stuck.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The truck driver, identified as Omar Abdulhameed Al Shaban from Charlottesville, was able to exit his vehicle prior to the train colliding with his truck.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The impact of the collision caused Al Shaban\u2019s truck to overturn, and left him and the train conductor uninjured.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The semi-truck was carrying potato chips at the time of the crash.
