{"id":8101,"date":"2025-05-16T14:37:29","date_gmt":"2025-05-16T19:37:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/truckaccidentlawyers.com\/news\/?p=8101"},"modified":"2025-05-16T14:37:29","modified_gmt":"2025-05-16T19:37:29","slug":"ncshp-investigates-fatal-pickup-truck-vs-big-rig-wreck-in-troutman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/truckaccidentlawyers.com\/news\/north-carolina-truck-accidents\/ncshp-investigates-fatal-pickup-truck-vs-big-rig-wreck-in-troutman\/","title":{"rendered":"NCSHP investigates fatal pickup truck vs. big rig wreck in Troutman\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TROUTMAN, NC \u2013 The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the details behind a head-on crash between a pickup truck and a semi-truck that left one dead and another injured.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qcnews.com\/news\/local-news\/fatal-crash-involving-overturned-semi-truck-closes-i-77-north-for-extended-period-in-iredell-county-ncshp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">QC News<\/a>, the events unfolded around 2 a.m. Friday, when the driver of a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was driving the wrong way on I-77 and slammed head-on into a big rig.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once the vehicles collided, the big rig flipped over and caught on fire, and the pickup truck driver was ejected from his vehicle.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Troopers declared the pickup truck driver dead at the scene, and EMS crews rushed the big rig motorist to Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tractor-trailer driver is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries and has since been identified as a 52-year-old man from Tampa, Florida.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Troopers identified the pickup truck driver as 31-year-old Eric Anthony Pompa from Layton, Utah. Officials suspect Pompa was impaired while operating his pickup truck.
