ALBERTSON, NC \u2013 An ambulance driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic and collided with a big rig, sending the two drivers and two other passengers to a hospital last Wednesday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This collision happened after 7:15 a.m. as the ambulance driver turned left in front of the big rig at <\/span>North Carolina 111 and Sheep Pasture Road, WECT<\/a> reported.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Duplin County officials said the ambulance driver was in the process of transporting a patient inside the ambulance to a hospital. The ambulance did not have any sirens or lights on during the collision. During the crash, the other EMS passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was in the back of the EMS vehicle assisting the patient. Authorities confirmed the ambulance driver was cited for failing to yield.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After other first responders arrived, the back-seated EMS occupant and the EMS driver were flown via a medical helicopter to <\/span>ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville for serious injuries.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Emergency crews took the patient to\u00a0 ECU Health Medical Center by EMS, and the tractor-trailer driver took the EMS truck to ECU Health Duplin Hospital for minor wounds.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
