NEAR RALEIGH, NC \u2013 A 55-year-old man driving a gasoline fuel tanker truck lost his life after he was struck head-on by a dump truck driver outside Raleigh Tuesday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This collision happened around 9:15 a.m. at the <\/span>Mial Plantation Road and Old Baucom Road intersection, according to WRAL<\/a>. After the vehicles collided, gas had supposedly spilled. Authorities did not confirm if it made its way into the nearby Neuse River and posed an environmental threat.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The driver of the gasoline truck, identified as Scott Thomas Painter from Wendell, was pronounced dead at the scene. North Carolina State Highway Patrol, said the trash truck driver, who was identified as 41-year-old Victor Eldred Adrain Sumner, had tried to flee from the scene, by attempting to escape through the woods.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sumner, however, was caught and then taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. As it stands, he faces several charges, which consist of \u201c<\/span>misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, operating left of center, careless and reckless driving, operating a commercial vehicle while using a mobile telephone, and resisting or delaying an investigation.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
