SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC — Authorities have confirmed that three children were among the five people who died Saturday night<\/a>, February 24, after their car was struck by a car hauler near Inman, according to WSAZ<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The accident happened on Interstate 26 near mile marker 12, south of Calvery Road, on February 24 at around 9:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

A preliminary investigation found that a commercial car hauling heading westbound first struck the back of a 2022 Toyota sedan. The car hauler then traveled past the cable carrier and into the eastbound lanes, where it was hit by an oncoming 2024 Honda sedan.<\/p>\n

Three children in the Honda, including a 14-year-old, an 11-year-old, and an 8-year-old, were all pronounced deceased at the scene. A fourth victim has been identified as Ashia Ballenger, 35. At the time of WSAZ’s update, officials were working to positively ID the fifth victim.<\/p>\n

The driver and sole occupant of the car hauler was taken to a local hospital, but no information about their condition has been shared.<\/p>\n

The driver of the Toyota was not reported injured.<\/p>\n
