COLLETON COUNTY, SC — Authorities are searching for a number of loose cattle following a tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 95 near Walterboro, reports Live 5 WCSC<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The accident happened on the southbound lanes of I-95 at mile marker 55, north of Beach Road. It was first reported at around 1:00 a.m.<\/p>\n

According to the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office, a a tractor-trailer was transporting an unspecified number of cattle southbound when the truck was involved in a crash.<\/p>\n

While part of the interstate was shut down for nearly nine hours during the emergency response, crews were not able to collect all of the animals that got loose as a result of the crash.<\/p>\n

The interstate was announced cleared by the South Carolina Highway Patrol at about 10:30 a.m., but the public was asked to be alert for loose cattle near Beach Road, Ulmer Lake Road, Cypress Pond Road, and other neighboring areas.<\/p>\n

Anyone who encounters or sees one of the loose animals is urged to call the Colleton County non-emergency line at 843-549-2211. The public is asked not to approach the animals, as they could be frightened or suffering from injuries.<\/p>\n
