The driver of a tractor trailer was hospitalized after his big rig flew off the highway in Clark County, Ohio, on June 18.
The Springfield News-Sun reports that the accident occurred when the tractor trailer that was traveling westbound on Interstate 70 tried to avoid a collision with a Toyota Camry after the car had reportedly pulled into the truck's path. The truck then veered off the highway, went airborne about 20 feet and landed on U.S. 68.
The news agency reports that two large steel discs also flew off the flatbed of the truck during the accident and landed on U.S. 68, causing heavy damage to the roadway.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, 71-year-old Charles Hawk of Baden, Pennsylvania, was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton following the crash. He was reportedly listed in serious condition.
There's been no word on the driver of the Toyota Camry, but police told the news source that no charges have been filed in the crash.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that 10 people died as the result of motor vehicle accidents in Clark County, Ohio, in 2009.
